Southeast Authors
Originally called United Authors, Southeast Authors is a group within the Society of Authors. Following the Society of Authors rules, membership of Southeast Authors is restricted to those who have already published one or more books and are eligible for membership of the Society of Authors.
We have amongst our membership writers from those beginning their writing career with their first book to well established professional writers, and those who publish only through mainstream publishers and others who also self-publish. Between us, we produce a wide variety of genres, including children’s literature, adult fiction and non-fiction of all varieties, including the social, sociological, biographical, political and spiritual. What we have in common is a shared commitment to the profession of writing.
Specifically, our aims are:
- To support the professional development of members
- To support the more effective marketing of our work
In a rapidly changing world, Southeast Authors aims to support both established and new writers with mainstream publishers, and those striking out into the brave new world of self-publishing.
We meet in Sussex, in a village just outside Crawley, though we draw members from surrounding counties too. Our meetings alternate lectures with featured speakers on subjects of keen interest to writers and workshops where we discuss the essential topics that concern all writers. Every meeting has the additional aim of creating a community for those pursuing the often-lonely business of writing.
Our first lecture meeting featured the General Secretary of the Society of Authors, Mark Le Fanu, who gave a talk on the state of the book trade and answered questions on the Google Book Agreement, a topic that has caused much concern to authors around the world
If you are a published writer eligible to join the Society of Authors and interested in joining Southeast Authors, please email me direct and I will pass on your enquiry.
